Why you should visit Canada in spring

Canada is an ideal destination all year around, but spring is certainly a great time to visit. The wildlife is coming out of hibernation, the temperatures are starting to rise, and the flowers are starting to bloom, and everything feels somewhat renewed.

Snow (Surprisingly)

However, despite this ski lovers may be surprised that you can still take advantage of Canada’s fantastic skiing, even in early spring. Head to the slopes of Blackcomb, Whistler and Jasper all of which are still chock-full of snow until April. In fact, Jasper’s Marmot Basin (which is located high up in the northern Rockies), has the longest ski calendar in Alberta – making it an ideal place to end your ski season. Skiing in Canada in spring is a great time to attain fantastic discounts on lift tickets, accommodations, and travel.

Sensational scenery

Visitors to Canada rave about the iconic Rocky Mountaineer train which is the only luxury train where you can travel from the Canadian Rockies to Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. This landmark train reopens from April onwards and is an absolute must for touring the country in style and where you can admire the incredible scenery.

Wonderful wildlife

Love wildlife? Spring is an ideal time to see the wonderful wildlife of Canada, as this is when the bears come out of hibernation, materialising with their cubs (Top tip: You can expect to see the black bears in March and April and the grizzlies in May)  Spotting the beautiful humpback whale soar out of the water has to be high on anyone’s travel bucket list. Canada is famed for whale watching and travellers visiting in spring have a great chance to see this. Head to the coast of British Columbia, Newfoundland or Nova Scotia where you can marvel at these majestic mammals.

Charming cherry blossom

A burst of cherry blossom signifies that spring is finally here. In Canada, one of the best places to see it is in Vancouver and there is even an official festival to celebrate these pretty blooms which takes place throughout April. Talking of flowers, you can also visit the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa in May where 250,000 tulips will fill Commissioners Park, creating a glorious sea of colour.

Marvellous maple

What represents Canada to you? Surely the iconic maple leaf must be up there? Spring is the time to watch maple syrup being made and indulge in a host of syrupy treats. Many makers will put on tours and displays, so you can see first-hand how it is created.

Typically, during the spring months, you will find that both accommodation and vehicle hire are both slightly cheaper and are more readily available in Canada than in high summer. Spring is definitely a great time to see the best of both worlds in Canada.
